A Lesson From The Ant

What I love about the book of Proverbs is how practical it is. God gives us simple answers to problems and questions that we find a way to over-complicate. I love the story of the ant.

6 Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones.
Learn from their ways and become wise!
7 Though they have no prince
or governor or ruler to make them work,
8 they labor hard all summer,
gathering food for the winter.
9 But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep?
When will you wake up?
10 A little extra sleep, a little more slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
11then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit;
scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.
— Proverbs 6:6-11

We should emulate the ant and study its work ethic. I love how God finds a way to provide wisdom through a creature so small. He’s saying look at how hard the ant works to provide for himself. No one has to tell the ant how hard it needs to work. It just knows that if it doesn’t try there will be no reward.

If we live our lives just being lazy and lacking a strong work ethic, we can’t expect God to bless us.

We can’t complain about being without when we have yet to take the initiative to change our current situations.

How can we apply these verses to our lives? Work hard at what you do no matter what it is. It’s simple things; like don’t get to work consistently late. It’s hard to lose a job when you get to work early, work as hard as you can, and then leave late. When you apply the Word of God to your everyday life, the outcome will always be for your benefit.

Jesus, thank You for Your Word and the practical wisdom found in these verses. I pray that in everything I do, I would honor You; that my best will always be displayed. Not to gain blessings but to solely glorify You. Thank You for Your love and grace.

In Jesus name, Amen.
